Hi My friends

My 1957 , 1000 car has not a temperature meter (water ) , if i want to set it to my car , how i do it. No any hole in Engine.

You find an adaptor like this that will let you place it in the top hose.
I'm sure you'll be able to find something locally.
You just need to make sure it's the right diameter for the hose you are cutting.
This one I have given a link to WILL NOT fit, but there will be a size that does.

A 1957 Minor could, as far as I know, have a plug in the cylinder head which can be replaced by a temperature sensor as shown in the photo.
Be sure you get the right sensor to match the gauge

If not, do as geoberni has suggested.
There are also thermostat housings available which can take the temperature sender.
It might not be a bad idea to fit an oil pressure gauge while you are at it.

Hi Declan - I think that Sandun's problem is that, unlike the 1098-engined cars, 948s don't have the casting in the cylinder head to fit the sensor. Richard's post above hsa a good description of how to get around it.

The 1957 948cc Minor does not have the ability to fit a temp gauge take off to the O/S front of the head.
The facility to be able to fit a temp gauge was incorporated into the 1098cc head.
The BMC way of fitting a temp gauge to the 803cc/948cc engine was to fit the special thermostat housing cover with temp gauge take off as per the photos and links below.
The temp gauge take off in the thermostat housing could be either in the top, side or at the side of the dome.

have to agree with that.
My '55 has at sometime been re-engined with a 948, but it's a latter one from a 1960s Mini; the earlier 948 as fitted to Minors didn't have the sensor hole. My engine has the hole but it's got a blank fitted.
