Greasing lower trunnion

Hello,

Been greasing the front wheels. There's a rubber seal of some sort around the lower trunnion which I noticed falling apart--disintegrating--as I added grease. It looked like it was already partially gone.

Is this critical? Should I replace it? What does it do?

How this makes sense! Thanks

It is important that all of the rubber seals (qty 3) (items No: 43 & 97 in the attached link) around the lower trunnion are kept in tip top condition as they keep the water and crud out of the trunnion threads and pin.

Fit the seals from Declan Burns as they are the best.

Thanks--I'll get some and put them on. Do I need to take everything apart to get them on?

Also, I'm having trouble getting the front wheels off as the wheel nuts are very tight. Any tips for loosening them?

Yeah the front suspension needs taking apart im afraid. I think others have used a tape for semi permanent repair. Possibly called denso tape?
