Stripped oil filter thread
Changed the oil today and noticed the bolt through the filter wouldn't tighten. It came out with a thin twist of metal around the thread so I suppose the thread in the filter head has stripped. Anyone else had this happen? Guess I'm going to need a second hand filter head. My saloon's a 1957. Were all the filter heads the same for the 1000 until the oil pressure light disappeared with the later cars?

Not an uncommon problem.
There were two makes of oil filter fitted to the Minor - see link.

If you are not too fussy about originality make the change to a canister type filter - much easier and cleaner to service.

If you want originality I have a couple of complete Purolator filter units, you're welcome to one for a beer and the postage - PM me if you want to go that route.
I went the spin on way, much easier to service.
