Hi, can anyone tell me if these mounts have had there day and need replacing please? I know that there has been some discussion as to whether replacement parts are too hard and may cause some vibration.
Has this issue now been sorted and where is the best place to purchase good, softer parts?
On another note I have realised that the gearbox mounts are handed, but I can't remember which one goes to which side. I take it that they are fitted so that the gearbox sits a little further back. Is this correct?
Many thanks as always
Kevin

Re: Engine and gearbox mounting rubbers
Iv just changed my my engine mounts for esm ones they seem nice and soft and I can't tell the difference from driving. I'm going for a long drive this afternoon which will test them more but im not expecting any problems. Iv left my gearbox mounts as they seem ok. They did have a batch of hard ones but this seems to be sorted now.

Re: Engine and gearbox mounting rubbers
The engine and gearbox mounts as shown in your photos are shot and need to be replaced.
As regards orientation of the mount brackets:- the large offset which sits against the gearbox casing goes to the rear - see BMC wksp man illustration FFF2 for details.
All I can suggest is that you replace the mounts with ones from a reputable supplier and they should be alright.

You may find good new-old-stock ones on eBay - if they've been carefully stored for the intervening decades, the rubber may not have perished. I found one still in its BMC box!

It is a good idea to cover rubber/neoprene bushes, mounts in silicon grease/fluid if they are going to be stored for some time.
Try Sparesman for NOS engine / gearbox mount rubbers.

The esm ones are nice and soft. I received and fitted a pair last week. Driven about 100 miles with no problems. No vibrations or anything. Think they were only £3-4 each aswell. I think they had a bad batch but have sorted it now. Tho I wonder how long the new ones will last.

Re: Engine and gearbox mounting rubbers
I fitted new engine rubbers back in January from ESM and they seem to ride well so far.
