hi all
i think that i have got a problem .
my engine if i try to turn in other by hand useing the cranking handle it will trun a little bit but at the point when it dose the bang inside the pot it kick backs and will more than likle take my arm off ,
now to push start it it works o.k like normal
when truning over by key (when the batt works car draining it poss dynamo but light gose out on dash) it will turn over then seem to stop ,not like when you run out of fuel it should just turn over all the time until you turn the key off but this dont is there too much compression or is it normal as my over two dont do this i have never seen it before or is it me
thanks

Have you checked the timing? It might be much too advanced!

As suggested check your timing settings. BUT, it is quite common
to have a kick back when using the starting handle which is why
you must NEVER hold the handle with your thumb on one side of
the handle and your four fingers on the other side. Your thumb
AND fingers must all be on the same side! If not then a kick back
can easily break your thumb! You may be getting kick back because
you are not giving a fast enough turn on the handle. It is easier
if you ensure that the position of the handle is at the bottom of
its turn so that the action when you try to start it is UPWARDS
from 6 oclock towards 9 oclock. I find that I can get a sharper
faster turn like this . Try it.

Yep - ignition too far advanced. You will always (as said) get a slight kick with handle - but your starter should be able to overcome this - or the battery on it's last legs ?? Also worth checking all the earth straps - battery to shell, and shell to engine.
