Help needed with seized nuts...

Hi, I am trying to progress with fitting new brake parts and am struggling at the second hurdle (first being the seized drums). The nuts on the flexible hose are seized /corroded together, I gave sprayed liberal amounts of wd40 but it won't budge. I am concerned too that I might rip off the metal bracket in the process.
I have limited space so any extension pole onto the spanner to get more leverage is not really an option.

Any advice on what I could do?

WD 40 is not really a release oil it is a water dispersant fluid so WD & the 40 is for 40 days after which it attracts moisture.

You need a good quality release oil i.e. PlusGas which gets between the threads and is a very good dismantling fluid.
I personally would cut the hose so you can get a ring spanner on the hose hexagon and the nut hexagon.
If it still will not budge carefully so as not to damage the bracket cut the nut with either a hacksaw or slitting saw.

Thanks for that Phil, I will get some Plusgas.
I thought I was making progress as there was a little "give" when I gave it another try...however, the give was with the bracket and its started to tear the metal :cry:
I had been thinking of getting a Dremel (or equivalent) , think I will go a head with it plus some small cutting disks as I think this issue will be recurring quite a bit more?
Btw, whereabouts in Hants are you?

Use a couple of vise grips or clamps to help hold the bracket to the body while you are working on the nut. Have you tried to tighten it a little to see if it will move at all? If the brake pipe was out of the way a socket would fit on.

Dremel arrived, if weather is ok tomorrow, will try to cut off the first(of quite a few I reckon), seized nuts.

Bit of progress today, used Dremel (and a cold chisel!) to get one of the front brake cylinders off. Hurray! :D
It's taking a long time as everything seems to be rustedtogether, plus I can only do a little at a time (health issues), and access difficult as car is on axle stands so low down and can't actually see some parts. The other thing is that as I am not experienced at this, I tend to deliberate for a long time before doing each thing ... in case Im doing it wrong...
Question....what size are the bolts required to hold the new brake cylinders in, they didn't come with the new cylinders :(
Back on it again tomorrow.

Probably UNF but don't know what diameter or length. If you want to bring a wheel cylinder to me I have a good selection you can try to get the exact size. I am just the other side of Southampton. John 07594 592237

The size of the two bolts holding the wheel cylinder to the back plate are as follows:-

1/4" UNF (28 TPI) x 3/8"......Pt No: 7H7520 (MOSS) This bolt has a reduced size head so requires a 3/16 BS spanner/socket. An Allen screw is a suitable replacement if the correct bolt is not available locally.

5/16" UNF (24 TPI) x 5/8"......Pt No: SH605051 (MOSS).

If you are getting the pipes and cylinders from one of the usual minor suppliers they should be able to supply the correct bolts too.

Phil,

Have added the details of the wheel cylinder bolts to the thread list, and also made a few updates, including inserting a column for the bolt/screw/stud length.
