I just got my 57 minor and it has a electric fuel pump which clicks loudly as I drive it,and doesnt seem to click at the same rate all the time ,I have found it really annoying and remember on my old mini I used to have which was a 1968 "a" series engine,it had a thoroughly reliable mechanical pump fitted on the engine with a glass bowl above to see the fuel.
can anyone tell me if it is possible to fit this kind of pump to my morris and are there any advantages or disadvantages please.

It may be that it has been fitted with an electronic 'pointless' pump. These are very noisy - I mean I could hear it over motorway noise in the minor and i replaced mine with a new standard SU pump but all will click at different rates depending on demand from the engine.

I have a rear mounted SU fuel pump with a rubber insulated mounting. It can be hardly heard when the ignition is switched on without the motor running. See 21A632, 21A750 and AUF214R in the link. Perhaps Burlen can supply similar in the UK.

I imagine there must be something wrong with your pump. Having run various different Morris Minors over many years I can't say that I've ever had an intrusive sound from the pump - just the faint tick every now and again - which I've always found rather reassuring!
I can't imagine what pump was fitted to your Mini but a similar electric pump, but at the rear of the car, was also fitted to 1960s Minis.

Is the pump in your car an SU pump? Could it be drawing air in at a joint? This could cause it to tick more frequently.

Well, of course, I can't hear how loud it is but if you can hear it, at least you know its working!
An old car age makes all sorts of 'unusual' noises, compared to a modern one and, unless there really is something wrong with the pump making it uncharacteristically loud, you may grow to associate the noise with the car's special charm . The standard SU pump is generally very reliable ............

I have an electric pump and have fitted these mounts which dampens the noise.
