Popped into my friendly garage for a chat, came back to find a dent & scrape along the nsr wing of my van....Obviously hit by something white.

This was on a private trading estate and i am 99% sure i saw the offender, any ideas?

It dies not matter whether it is a private trading estate or not.

S 170 RTA 1988 amended the 'on a road' to 'on a road or any other public place'. The latter is defined as any place to which the public, or any section thereof has access, whether on payment or otherwise.

He should have stopped and seen who was owner / driver of the other van / car. Common defence was 'I didn't realise.' They are still liable tho

You should report to the police. They won't be terribly interested nor will they do anything about it. Do you have any witnesses or the VRM of the offending vehicle. If both, the Insurance company may well pursue a civil case for you if you have legal expenses insurance. If neither you are one more victim of other people's carelessness and probably will have to foot the repair bill yourself unless the other driver admits it.

Any CCTV on the scene ?

Tried the site office to enquire about CCTV locations....No response... will try again in the morning..

UPDATE

CCTV showed up nothing untoward, the ONLY other place my van was parked was at a friend's house - communal parking spaces - however, i DID notice a WHITE SUV parked (very close) alongside my vehicle at the w/e.

Off we go again....

It's easy to get carried away here, but it's not rocket science to say if there was punishment for wrongdoing it would stop, or at least be considerably reduced. An example might be to give someone who dropped litter a 10 year prison sentence, provided, and I emphasis provided, this sort sentence was made perfectly clear beforehand.

Parking on the pavement, you know the half on half off to leave room for traffic. Offence should be compulsory starting handle shoved really hard up the offenders....... *Blank*!

If you go for CCTV just stand where it happened and do a full 360 spin as you may be on CCTV that is not low down or easy to see then you can ask the owners of it for help, The problem is that the CCTV may be hard to obtain if they stick to the data protection act, but normally they will give it to the police or insurance companies, you can request it but it can take ages and alot of the time people will say they have non functioning cameras

Can replacement bumpers be bought in a specific colour, or are they black, then spray painted?!

It depends who makes them and what make of car. Caveat emptor ! I had someone go into the back of my Ford B Max in Edmonton (Par for the course around there!) It needed a new bumper amongst other things, but I found that the replacement bumpers are made and painted by Ford in a different factory to that where they make the cars. After the otherwise excellent repair I found I had a red car but an orange bumper. Several bumpers later with Ford refusing to do anything and insisting that my 2 year old ford must 'have faded', my insurance company authorised the repair shop to paint the bumper bringing it close to the original colour given that plastic and metal take up the paint differently.

About three weeks ago I was buying my daughter a second hand KA and saw the updated for B max in the show room in the same colour as mine. On this BRAND NEW car the bumpers were several shades different from the rest if the bodywork.

There are threads on the internet in this subject for most major manufacturers!

They are all the same, Chris. If there is paint on the neighbour's car which matches your vehicle then you've got her (get an independent witness though) but otherwise its your word against hers - and you ain't got much on your side without cctv evidence. Was there much damage?

Damage is dent/split on repair panel, scuff level with Tyre Pressure transfer...
Certainly don't have the ability to repair it, metal is SO thin...Would warp like anything.
