Can the engine be rotated in its current condition?
Have you removed the head for examination?
Something may have got into the combustion chamber (possibly a piece of broken piston & piston ring) which ended up between the valve head and piston crown. When the piston came to the top of its stroke the valve was unable to open (or close) but the engine, cam and valve train were still moving but not the valve and the push rod consequently bent.
Another consideration is that coolant may have got into the into the cylinder and the cylinder suffered a hydraulic lock keeping the valve shut and as above the valve train was still moving and the valve and push rod bent.
To be honest the problem could have been caused by several chain reactions therefore a few pictures of the problem would be of benefit.

Thanks for the quick reply philthehill the head is off and the push rod is well bent and the valve is stuck there is nothing wrong with the pistons and there is nothing wrong with the copper gasket and i cant see any water on top of the pistons if that is what you mean. the pistons still move i would love to put some pics on here but that is still on going

Many thanks for the additional information
It may be that the valve has picked up in the guide and again as the valve train is still moving the push rod bent.
If it has - remove the valve spring/spring cap and press/knock out the valve and guide as one.
Replace the valve and guide.
