Hi. I have a early [September] MM Series II with the gold dash and at the moment my fan is yellow. I understand that the colour should be red. Can anyone confirm that the colour is red before I remove it to re-spray it. Also where I can get a can of red paint from - Thanks

I would agree that the fan should probably be red - although I have no idea what shade. I think the early Minor 1000s were still red as well.
An aerosol can from a car accessory shop should be fine?

Agreed. Red fan blades until approx 1958/59 and yellow thereafter. Moss Europe can supply red engine paint which is probably close enough to the correct shade. 400ml rattle cans or 500ml brush-on, for around £17 each.

Our 1958 originally had, I think, a red fan and a red water pump pulley?

Yes, it should be red. Funnily enough, my 1955 has a red fan and a (later) yellow strengthener plate - don't know where the original red one went!

The early Minors did not have the plate stiffener (Pt No: 2A803 (BMC)).
The plate was introduced when cracks started to appear in the fan blades radiating from the fan mounting holes.

Ah, thanks Phil. That explains it then. A couple of years ago I noticed there was no stiffener on my (red) fan, so fitted a (yellow) one , just in case........... :D
