Hiya, had to take timing cover off today to change rubber seal, which way on does the oil thrower go? Haynes manual says concave side forward but unsure what they mean by forward!!! (originally i had it facing away from engine)
Thanks

You had on correctly, Haynes speak means towards the front of the car.

It probably is correct as Kevin says but later engines have a modified cover and thrower. My saloon has this and it was confusing because the thrower fits the opposite way, however an "F" marking is a bit of a clue!

that ones a classic. took me back a few years. glad to see its still around.

when refitting the timming cover, ensure the pully wheel is inserted in the oil seal when fitting the cover. fit the cover and push on the wheel at the same time. this will ensure that the pully wheel is central in the timming cover oil seal.

Good advice! Also put a smear of oil around the seal lip before fitting as it won't then run dry and damage the new seal.
