Seems like something should be fitted !

Hi,
I have a 1968 Minor 1000.
Does anyone know the purpose of the flat vertical metal edging below the curvature of the dashboard ? It seems that there should be some form of cover strip.
The edging has holes in it along it's length, from the left of the dash to the right.
The edging is not usually an eye sore when driving, as one's eyes tend to be raised
However, the edging is visible as a passenger, more so from the rear seats.

It's just stiffining to make the panel more rigid. You could put some rubber channel strip on it.

Thank you SmithSkids. I'll be looking out for some rubber channel, either in black to match the door trims or light grey to match the upholstery.
Not sure why it wasn't covered up during manufacture !

They didn't worry about those things back then, especially as it's not a high end car!

Because no one was bothered about that particular piece of exposed metal back when the car was made.
People were just happy to have a new car.

Next time I take the van out, I'll have a look, can't say I've given it much thought, as I remember it's folded over neatly enough!

That was back then !
Don't suppose adding a trim will deviate from it's trueness anyway.

At my auto parts store, we sell black and chrome push-on trims for door trailing edges, to guard against paint chipping. If you can find it in Britain, that seems like the sort of thing that would be ideal for covering this under-dash flange.

But I don't understand why it has 'holes in it, along its length'. None of mine ever had holes...........

Probably a previous owner has fitted brackets to the strip, for extra gauges/switches, etc.
