The asking prices are stupid now Les and one firm has a traveller for £23,000

I'm noticing that parts on eBay are going the same way.

Another case in point - apparently has a written valuation of £8k - how? To me this would be between 2 & 3k maximum, mainly on the strength of the excellent interior.

There's an albeit stunning looking Morris Oxford MO traveller for sale on the usual sites with a trader and although it looks like new I don't think I'd be tempted at the asking price of £21950 .

I have seen, since i still look on ebay for cars even though wife says no, the cost of most classic cars seems to have gone up a fair whack in the last few years.
I sold my last Minor (a 1960 one) in 2013 for £1200 i think. Long mot, decent bodywork, nice interior etc. They look to have added a fair few hundreds on there now.
I bought my first Minor as i couldn't afford a Beetle, but that was 10 years ago and the Morris seems to have appreciated quite a lot since. Which is good if you own one, but if you harbour ambitions of getting "back on the horse", it certainly stunts those thoughts!
Allegro's and Austin 1300's seem to be the good cheap alternative now for me. I like a Herald, but again, they have crept up too.
The last classic i had was Triumph Toledo, i sold it for £900 in 2014, really good condition. Double that now going by ebay.

See what happens in a few years time when i am allowed a classic car again!

I may have to revise Jethro's insurance cover, He has an agreed valuation of £5,000 and is in better condition than the moss covered one on Gumtree!

It has been reported that owing to the low, virtually non existant interest rates, People have invested in property. In between times, property Prices are over subscribed and thus new Investment Trends are being sought. Thus classic cars come into the fore and British classics especially.

I have just purchased a Herald but not as an investement but to use it., improve it and LHD it.

People will buy any old crap tbh - bids on that Series 11 challenged pickup on eBay atm - £4.5k investment?

The fact there's no w/screen pillar mounted mirror arm captive nuts & bottom of B posts ain't flush behind sill finisher...makes it rarer I suppose(?)

Heralds are still cheap IMO.if you can't afford a Minor..buy one now!

I saw that 'rare' SII pickup as well. Handbrake very odd for a SII. I do wish the people who 'restore' these had a better knowledge of Minors. It's OK if it's done as a special or hotrod, but not if you claim it's a genuine original vehicle. On the dodgy provenance the current bidding is more than I'd pay. Lob a modern motor in and some nice wheels - then I'd go higher.
Just seen another split screen 2 door on ebay - with under bonnet wiper motor and series 5 steering column and wheel. Rear wheel looks out of centre in the arch - wrong leaf springs?.

Best one was the "Genuine Rare 59 split screen with original 1098cc motor" a few months ago. How I laughed!

Rare de-luxe version with chrome windscreen surround too....Worth more perhaps?

Another slant on this is what you can buy for the same money as a £4000 or £9000 Minor. Or even a £1000 rotten pear.
Yes insurance could be a deal breaker, something expensive could break but a Minor might have exorbitant hidden rust. When I got my first Minor (1982!) it was all I could afford, these days a decent Minor is out of my budget so I'll have to slum it in a Merc, Jag, Porsche or Alfa.. or maybe a Fiat 500 or Barchetta. And as for 2CVs, you could buy a house for less than one of those! :):)

Other than the SLK, they're all a bit dull though.
Crazy though isn't it, how cheap "old" not classic cars are.
I remember in 2007 i bought my Supra (i was 21!) It was a 1989 3 litre, non-turbo, manual. Good bodywork, good engine. I paid £600 for it.
Now, 10 years on, they have appreciated somewhat too. I guess it is old enough to be a classic, practical classics certainly thought so.

Another just appeared. A 53 Morris 1000 Convertible with slatted grill, S3 wheel, 1098 engine. No reserve so worth doing if cheap.

I can't help thinking that a Porsche Boxster "S" with over 250bhp and a 0-60 time below 6seconds would hardly be "dull" when compared with a Morris Minor for the same price

A few years ago I had a Toyota Celica GT-Four ST205 for £3800 and it was a pile of fun and rust free. After my old minor it was the only other car I have had that I was really sad to let go. Went like hot snot, but single figure mpg over Buttertubs Pass.
