To the good people of the MMOC,
I have been having a look around various sources in regards to the cylinder size of the rear brakes on my 1968 Morris Traveller and have found some conflicting advice so as is always the way... help!
What size of brake cylinder should be fitted to the rear brakes on a 1968 traveller? I believe its the 3/4inch bore, and I correct?
Second, looking on ESM website they have 2 kinds of cylinder differing in price quite substantially, can someone shed light to the differences please?

Definitely 3/4 on a 68 car.

The more expensive is the "genuine" Lockheed cylinder, ie made by the people who bought the production line from the people who bought the production line from Lockheed.

The less expensive one is "pattern". I've just bought these, not fitted yet, on the basis of received wisdom on here that pattern rear cylinders have performed reasonably ok - front pattern cylinders are apparently much less reliable. I understand you are likely to have to file either type to get them to fit.

Depends partly on the use your car will get. If likely to be used only infrequently I think I'd go for the genuine ones, but if used regularly a lower chance of cylinders seizing so pattern ones ok. I just hope I prove to be right!

Hi Mark, thank you for the reply and advice. The previous owner decided to go down the pattern route and to put it politely they were a pain to remove from the backplate. Based on this I bit the bullet and tried the lockhead, she may well be used infrequently so seizing was a good point. Having fitted them its a no brainer, they fit nicely with a little persuasion (a little 'tap' with a hammer) and they work a charm. If I encounter any issues I will report back but for now they are working a charm
