Hi all,

While having a 1960 Traveller and 1956 Tourer, today I bought a 1969 Tourer. One of the last tourers to be built I guess. VIN: MAT5D-1252318M

It was imported by a Britisher when new and used at the British high commission in Sri Lanka (known as Ceylon at that time)
It is reputed to be the last tourer to be imported to Sri Lanka and to be the only 1098 tourer.

Anyway... my question today, is about the turn signal switch. The car currently has the older 948 style switch with the little green indicator on the end of the stalk.

The black speedo has 2 amber warning light lenses in it but they do not come on at any time. I'm guessing these were for the turn signal ? and the switch should have a black plastic end with no indicator on it ?

The horn operates from the "M" crested plastic button in the middle of the 2 spoke black steering wheel. So the correct turn switch should not have a horn push feature on it ?

I'm sure I will have many more question, as I try to perfect this already well restored car.

Hi,

No - you have the correct set up. That is the way the indicator warning light was from when it was introduced on the later 948 cars up until the end of production. The earlier 948 style indicator stalk had the horn push on the end, with a warning light closer to the steering column, on the base of the switch - this was on cars with trafficators that pre-dated the cars with flashing indicators. You've got the correct steering wheel for the age of car, too.

One of the amber lights is the oil pressure warning (IIRC the lower of the 2). The other is the 'blocked oil filter' warning light, that was only actually used for a brief period, then deleted, but the amber lens remained on the speedo. So, I wouldn't worry about that one, but I would be inclined to investigate why your oil pressure light isn't working, as that one is quite important
