1098 Into a Series II Box

Hey Boys & Girls,
I'm in the middle of an urgent engine swap. Using a standard 1098 engine & clutch, this should fit directly into a series II gearbox. Is this correct? I'm having a few alignment problems

, and thought I ask (hopefully someone will answer while I'm asleep). Thanks muchly.
PS: The last motor was a 950

Well as far as I remember the 1098 clutch doesn't fit in the 948 bell housing so may be a problem in the sII, but I've never used a SII gearbox so I'm not really sure.
However from memory (and if you are really desperate) you should be able to fit the 948 clutch to the 1098 engine, although I guess you also need to swap flywheels, and the crankshaft flange is hopefully the same.
That is not something I'd really recommend as you shouldn't go for lower capacity clutches with a more powerful engine but it may just work ;-)

how long is your gearleaver, is it near the handbrake , or does it start much nearer to the toe board. I recon you may have a 948 box not and 803 box?

I though as much. After much deciding on Sunday afternoon, I have decided to get rid of the series II box and put in the 1098. It's the end result I want, but not something I had planned to do so soon!
Looks like I'll be cutting some floor on next few weekends.

if you investigate it, you can fix the long gear stick to the 1098 gearbox.
it can be done, ive done it before, and it works, it saves cutting your split screen floor.
may be i should start supplying them.

Yeah I had a look at it on Saturday. Would need to either mill or lathe out a stepped section to allow the output shaft bearing housing to clear.
I grabbed a big angle grinder from work with a big cut off blade. 3 Minutes later problem solved... well that one is

i used a colchester 2000 with a very large 4 jaw chuck,
man! those angle grinders are so usefull
does it go in gear and stay there?
