Now that I've finished panelling and insulating my garage, I was thinking of buying an electric greenhouse heater to keep the damp at bay, and wondered if anyone has done likewise and could suggest what size I'd need and where best to locate it.

Could anyone tell me what physical size and wattage I'd need for a garage measuring approx 9 x 18 feet? I was thinking I could either place one long heater underneath the car, or smaller ones either side. Any thoughts?

And is there a particular make you'd recommend?

To keep it dry you would be better off buying a dehumidifier, Its amazing how much water they pull out.

Brick and concrete garages seem to suffer from condensation whereas wooden ones do not. More important is ventilation and this will save you money on energy bills; simply opening the garage door for a couple of hours a few times a week will get some air flowing through and help reduce condensation. It's our rotten climate I'm afraid.

They are ideal. Got one for each car (apart from the Landy,who lives outside).
Got mine from Toolstation, about 4 foot long,had them 6yrs and seem to be bombproof. Can't remember the price but thought they were cheap enough.

Ps. Keep them under the car so you can move off and on without running over the cable. And my garages are brick. No condensation problems at all although I do like to give them a few hours airing on dry and breezy days.

That sounds like a good recommendation - I'll order a four-footer and place it under the car!

My block garage has a slate roof and the first Winter (Before I got round to wiring it), it was prone to condensation. The thing, which seemed to put an end to that, was when I had a plasterboard ceiling put in (Just after the wiring was connected). The roller shutter door is quite well ventilated. You can also rig up "Carcoons", which I am told are economical to run.

Jowett makes a good point about ventilation but during the winter it's difficult to have the door open. I have a 14" desk fan mounted in the roof on a timer this keeps the air moving when the doors shut. It comes on every couple of hours for 10 mins at a time.
