Front hubs

I have my front suspension stripped at the moment for an overhaul, so all bits on the bench for a clean and paint etc.

I have cleaned the front hub bearings of old grease etc, when spinning the hub it seems to be out of balance with quite a wobble. I have just got some oil in the bearings at the moment, so when slid onto the swivel pin I can get quite a spin on it, the swivel pin gains quite a wobble. The swivel pin is also on the bench and being held while doing this. The hub will allways return to one position wherever I put it.

I would have expected the hub to be balanced, or is this normal. It has all been fine on the car with no steering wobble.

Am I being daft here and missing the obvious, does it need the brake drum to balance it up. The bearings are fine.

Just a thought but I am only nipping the hub nut up for testing on the bench, when its torqued up does this pull everything in line ??

Grease it up, stick it all together, bolt a wheel on, adjust the brakes, then give it a spin and see what you think.

It's a Morris Minor hub not a heart bypass pump. I like your thinking but in this instance don't worry. Where the hub stops now is irrelevant once all that additional mass is bolted to it.

Thats the precision bit of me coming out, I am sure it will all change once the mass of everything is back on there. It just seemed a little odd.

Greased up and back on they will go.

All I need now is a new LH swivel and we are good to put the whole lot back, lets hope the new swivels are made correctly this time round !.
