As the trav is a working motor , me with mud and grime usually present, I'm inclined to rip the old carpets out, does anyone know of a set of rubber matting available, in the same vein as the light commercial motors had, just front section would be fine, otherwise a case of make em myself

I 'liberated ' the rubber mats from my wife's Golf when she sold it. They're quite a good fit in my Traveller.

I would much rather have carpets. I have never owned a traveller which didn't let a certain amount of water into the car somewhere and the water finds the lowest point - the floor - to sit on. The water then gets under the rubber mats and cannot dry out again so the floor sweats and rusts. Early travellers (upto about around 1961) had rubber flooring like the vans & pick-ups and it is one of the reasons why these models have survived in lower numbers. Many earlier travellers didn't make it past their 10th birthday because of rotted-out rear floor pans

If you have decent carpets in your car, just cut some cheap carpet offcuts to put on top to protect them
