Guidance required on engine
Advice required I have a 1275 midget engine which I have stripped down and I am fitting new rings ,big end shells and main bearing shells along with timing chain and seals etc. What and we're to use grease ,gasket goo or nothing on the gaskets when I am rebuilding also I did not realise the dipstick tube was plastic this has broken off inside the block , is the tube extension necessary. Lastly would this be a good time to cut off the side of the oil breather on the timing chain and weld on a flat plate or do I wait till the engine is in tomake sure it does indeed foul the fan . Your input would be welcome

If you feel the need to use anything on the gaskets use a smear of general purpose grease on both faces of all gaskets including the head gasket.
There is absolutely no need to use any gasket goo.
You will need the plastic dip stick extension as the dip stick fits inside the tube and having the extension tube will give the right dip stick reading.

If you need to cut the front face of the timing cover oil separator now is the time to do it when it is off the engine and the engine is out.
You can get different thickness spacers to enable the fan to clear the oil separator can without having to cut the oil separator can.

or fit the flattened oil collector body timing cover.

What ever you do make sure that the fan has sufficient clearance between fan and radiator as under hard braking the engine can move forward sufficient to contact the radiator. That is the main reason as to why the gearbox restraining wire was fitted but the engine/gearbox unit still moves even when the wire is fitted.
