Identify 12g940 head

Post by Motojohn »

Hi people I've just found another 12g940 cylinder head, it's flat across the top so I'm assuming not A plus.
It has water valve outlet so not metro, it also has double valve springs.
Anybody know what this head is from? It's original colour of green as well.
Cheers

A photo of the head would be appreciated.
Are there any numbers on the flat surface by the thermostat opening/housing.[frame]Image[/frame]

Your pics are not coming up, you need to resize them to 640x480 and they will load up.

Going by the pics it looks like the best head to use on a 1098 engine to upgrade the output ie it's a small valve1298 head. I have one of those but have yet to fit it but I think Panky has got this one on his engine and is very pleased with it.

I would strongly suggest that the 12G940 (see casting number/first photo above) head in question has been taken off a 1275cc MG Midget/Sprite as the water take off/thermostat housing (Pt No: 12G24) is a Midget/Sprite item.
It also has a twin carb inlet manifold locating ring/sleeve (Pt No: 12G297) fitted into the Siamese No: 1 & 2 inlet port.

Many thanks for informative replies. Did the double valve springs come as standard on the head do you know?
The inlet valves measure roughly 33.3 mm.
I had drunk half a bottle of port when I measured them so not specific
Are we saying this head could work ok then on the 1098?
Decent carb upgrade?

The double valve spring set up was fitted as standard.
Inner spring Pt No: 12G1137.
Outer spring Pt No: 12G1136.
The inlet valve @ 1 5/16" roughly translates to 33.33mm so standard inlet valves fitted.
The head can be fitted to the 1098cc engine but you will have to either put pockets in the block or sink the valves into the head.
Use search facility for details. Lots of information on here about fitting a 940 head to a small block engine.
Glad someone else likes port but is no good for the gout :D
