gps tracker wiring

afternoon all,

my girlfriend bought me one of the sensibly priced GPS trackers from amazon as a surprise present the other day and im looking to wire it up this weekend. the only core (i.e. no added extra) wiring I need to do are to connect the baby to a 12V power supply and was wondering what the best source for this is?

I'm imagining its the voltage regulator at the back of the speedo, but does this normally have spade connectors free to connect to, and where would I connect the +ve & -ve terminals to?

really am an amateur when it comes to wiring so all help greatly appreciated!

You want a permanent live feed with an inline fuse fitted and the wiring should be well concealed along with the unit, keeping as short a run of wire as possible.

thanks Jowett - my main question is where is best to connect the wire to? Should i connect it to the lighting circuit on the fusebox? At the moment the wires on the unit are just raw, with no connections - take it i'd need to fit spade connectors here?

also, you mentioned the in-line fuse - would that be acheived by connecting it to the fusebox, or do you mean something additional?

Yes, you are right in the need to terminate the ends properly. The earth wire (is your car pos. or neg. earth?) you could use a PIDG ring terminal and find a convenient screw fastening to the car body. The lights will be permanently fed so you could take a feed from the supply, yes. I would fit an in-line fuse (like you get in the feed to car radios) in the wire between the lights feed (if you decide to use this feed) and the GPS unit. I can't see it drawing much current, we are probably talking milliamps here.
