I know that the modern rubber pipes around our engines aren't up to much and as part of my annual autumn check I've been having a good look. Definitely getting ready for a change!
Now, the guy at our local car shop reckons I'd be better off replacing most of them with silicone pipes. Seems there are ones designed for water,oil or breathers. All in a rather lurid blue.
Given that these are my daily drivers and reliability is the priority I'm considering replacing the aging (5yr old but slightly frilly)rubber with silicone pipes.
What does the panel think?

yes silicone are good..original old stock 1950/60s rubber are better if you can find them ..

Some suppliers do the silicone in black..

Taupe

Rubber became obsolete for most automobile tubing years ago. Bio fuels have seen to that. Water may be OK, but there are better alternatives around.

Avoid the modern kevlar hoses, they are awful, but silicone are great. As above, available in black, look more in keeping with the rest of the car.

Silicone, they're much more expensive but will last many times more and give you less headaches.

There are some available in matte black that look much more like the originals.

Iv just bought some 1/2 inch fuel line to try for the heater hoses. Its reinforced so hopefully won't kink like what's already there. Was only £5.99 for 5 metres delivered. Was looking at silicone hoses tho. Il post how I get on with it.
