Hope some one can help

Been wiring my pick-up today and all is in and working connected up a front sidelight/indicator (only 1) and it flashers! Yippee however I have fitted stalks for all controls and they all work and 2 speed wipers, so I located the light green wire from the flasher unit and routed it to the sppeedo, but sadly it does not flasher? Do I need all 4 fitted to make it flash, I would have thought it would just illuminate without any lamps installed?

Hazzard warners work fine with 1 lamp fitted the pull switch flashes, once the unit is removed it that just illuminates, stays on

I have run a new warning lamp from the junction behind the dash but that also fails to illuminate, what do I need to do?

What flasher unit are you using, late PO vans were different to all others, whether this will make a difference, who knows?

Standard 3 terminal, the P terminal has a light green wire that normally runs to the stalk and make the green pilot light on the end illumnate Chris...........all I have done is run that wire to the green light in my speedo as per late PO vans?

Can't understand why its does not illuminate without any lamps connected all the other warning lights illuminate with no lamps s connected that even includes the hazzard switch! see pic below

Bulmbs are about as simple as it gets: +ve one side and -ve the other and they light up. So, grab a multimeter (preferably an analogue one as the needle will swing quicker than a difital display will change). Set to resistance. disconnetc the light green wire form the flasher unit and check continuity right through to your bulb. Check continuity through the bulb and down to earth. Select a scale for DC volts that will accommodate 12v and connetc the meter between the terminal on the flasher unit and earth. When the unit operates, do you see a pulsing meter?

It could be a faulty flasher, a bad connection, a broken wire, or a blown bulb, the tests above should show what's likely to be wrong.

.....do I need all indicator lamps connected or will one suffice? I only had one front connected but it was flashing the lamp no problem, that is the unit not the warning green light!

Just a thought if I ditch the Light green wire and wire direct from the green/white and the green/red wires to the bulb that should surely work? It would appear tha the Mini operdates in this way using a 2 pin flasher............any comments?

well its working! done all the checks etc.... and changed the flasher for the old one on my van and it flashers........so where can I get a decent flasher unit

Hi Russ, well done. Sorry I didn't get back about the meter. Irrelevant now, but a digital meter will work, just not so well - they take longer to adjust the display, whereas analogue meters flick the needle more quickly. Anyway, the flasher can cause the problems you described, and it was first on my list, but it's always useful to go through the checks methodically rather than jumping to conclusions. You can get replacement units from most parts suppliers and also Auto Electrical Supplies or Vehicle Wiring Products. If you don;t want authentic then they also sell elctronic equivalents that are more reliable.

Very true, we still bring our old AVO 7's out of retirement now and again for fault-finding on railway signalling equipment for this very reason. Good to hear you have sorted it Russ, but what was the fault?

As I mentioned in my last post a brand new flasher unit was faulty used the old one from my van and it worked

Smaller oblong type fitted under dash, all PO vans with PVC taped loom, flasher "stalk" (no bulb/grn cap), solenoid button stopper & Neiman Steering lock/ign - (B)50001/(E)5001 onwards.

Try to get a pic this w/e.
