Air Filters

Hello everybody. I was looking in my '68 2-door saloon and I noticed that there was a John Cooper air filter. It left me wondering whether it may have been fitted in the factory or not, because John Cooper was working with Morris at that time to produce the Mini Cooper. Any ideas?

Does it say John Cooper? The standard filter for most Minors is "Cooper's", but to the best of my knowledge this is a completely different company than John Cooper's racing outfit.

I haven't got it right now (it's in the workshop getting a paint job), but from what I can remember it said 'John Cooper' on it. I might be wrong though, I'll check when I get it back.

When the 1071cc Cooper S was developed it was fitted with special separate circular gauze air filters Pt Nos: 12A221/12A222.
These air filters are the only serious connection I can find between John Cooper and air filters.
John Cooper was involved in the development of the 1071cc Cooper S and as far as I can tell these gauze filters were only fitted to the 1071cc Cooper S.
I am more than happy to be corrected.
Phil

Well, I have the car back now and I can confirm it is a John Cooper air filter. How it got in there I have no idea... my only guess is that a previous owner used it as an upgrade.
