Hello All
I guess this is a Midget starter motor ? The end cover came loose today , one bolt loose 2 missing and one sheared . What happens if I remove the end cover ? There is some sort of spring force behind it . I could do with getting it off to drill and tap a hole . Do you know the bolt size ? A 1/4 spanner seems to fit and a domestic electrical patress screw sort of fits .
Thanks Jim

The brushes are behind the cover. Nothing should fall out if you're careful, undo the nut on the post before you take the plate off as it's attached to two of the brushes.

A pattress screw is 3.5mm so given the age of the starter motor the thread will most likely be a BA size. 4 BA is the nearest to 3.5mm.

Yes , 4BA has done the job . Now with split washers and locktight
