Sorting out various electrical glitches on our recently acquired Traveller.

I have replaced one of the courtesy switches and the interior light now works when switched on by either of them. It doesn't work via the switch and I have found that the black earth wire in the light unit is not connected to ground. I was trying to work out whereabouts that black wire is grounded and what is the routing of all the wires after they leave the light unit?

The wire should have a ring terminal on the end which is then secured to one of the bolts holing the rear roof section to the fron cab section. In practice, any good earth point will work. The light operates by having a permanent supply to one side of the buld and then the earth return is completed by either the pillar switches or the switch on the lamp.

From memory the saloon wires went across the top of the windscreen , down through the A post drivers side ( RHD ) and split at dash board level. The passenger side , crossing under the dash to the door switch.
The interior light operated by the light switch slider, "works" when pushed to the left. Left hand contact goes to earth , the feed ( purple wire ) enters from the bottom connection , through the bulb , through the left hand contact to complete the circuit.
If you have a broken black earth wire , remember to tape the new wire to the old before pulling it through the bodywork.
I think it was attached to the headling tension wire screw for some reason but that could just be my mind playing tricks. I'm
sure someone will correct me.
