on a 1275 engine i am having one hell of a job with front downpipe to manifold.there is not enough flange covering manifold for the flange coupling to adhere to resulting in plenty noise. talking to the supplier they said these are quite normal and quote...nobody has ever complained???. any tips from anyone would be gratefull. re.john

Are you using the Minor manifold?

My traveller has the 1275 engine and standard exhaust. It started blowing after a few years. After lots of boggering around I just dropped the front pipe off the manifold a bit, using a jack, and applied a good amount of the sealant used for log burner seals. Then jacked the front pipe back up and tightened the clamp. It's worked like a charm.
I believe others have solved the problem with copper wire wrapped around and then clamped up.

Is it definitely an 1/2" down pipe?

All I can suggest is to take the front pipe off and increase the size of the flare on the end with the aid of a ball pein hammer and a dolly or edge of a vice.

Where are you, John. If I had the car in front of me I could form you a new one in 20 minutes.
12G787 rings a bell for the casting number on the Marina cast manifold with one downpipe and a 1.5 inch carb. Is that what you've got? Any chance of a photo?
Rob
Edit. Failing that, if You can work out the bore I.D. and the angle of the taper I can bash one up for you to weld onto your existing pipe.

Try this company for a new bell end repair section - they may have what you want in mild steel.

Details of the Marina 12G3538 exhaust manifold flange:-
Max O.D. ......................2"
I.D. .............................1.5"
Angle of male flange when an angle meter is placed across the bottom of the flange and the angle measures gives a reading of 43.5 degrees (45 degree nominal) from horizontal.
