Hi,
Any ideas what is best to clean out petrol tank. Basically I have stripped all the gunk, etc off the tank and wondering if worth giving a swill around with something to remove any potential debris that may have got in.
Old petrol any good or white spirits, then wash through with water???

Remove the sender unit and stop up the holes after pouring in half a gallon of paraffin and some stones then keep turning it about somehow. Sounds crude but it costs nothing. I suppose a high pressure jetwash would do the same in a fraction of the time.

Rob,
Some half fill the tank with gravel and strap it on a cement mixer for a few hours before sealing the inside with a tank sealant. I haven't tried it myself.

Luckily BMC didn't paint the inside of petrol tanks but Rootes did
This is a shot of the inside of a Commer tank, the paint doesn't like modern fuels and it peels off - you can see why we call it snake skin

Thanks for advice. ummm... strapping it to a cement mixer! think I will leave that to the professionals. The actual inside of the tank is in really good order. Will give blast through with a pressure washer, let it dry out well and go from there.

Try rinsing with oxalic acid
