Ignition switch

Post by 2011dandd »

Hi I have problems with my ignition barrel. I took the old one out and re wired the new one in exactly, the blowers and wipes come on on the first click but no starter motor in the next position but the old one was at least spinning the starter. So then put the old one on again and then that lost spinning the starter motor!! What on earth is going on ??

Why were you changing the switch in the first place? This may be a clue... You need a meter (or test lamp)to check if volts are getting to the starter solenoid - it may be faulty -or needing to be earthed/connections cleaned. Does the starter always work if you press the button on the solenoid?

The starter was getting power, there was no spark before testing that power was getting to the coil I thought I would change the ignition unit. I installed the new as per the old one. The old had position 1 with 1 prong position 2 with 2 prongs but only one wire fixed and position 3 with two wires fixed. I thought it odd that only one wire was fixed to position 2 even though there were two connections there?
