Wiper & indicator problems

Post by Yenotsneb »

Hi,

the windscreen wipers have stopped working on my Series II Morris, I'm not very good at electrical stuff so would appreciate some advice about where to start find the problem.

Also, the indicators aren't working - I know the wiring came loose, I attempted to repair it but they're not working again - could it be a fuse? If so, how do I work out which fuse needs replacing and where is a good place to buy the correct fuse?

Thanks!

Both those items are controlled by the same fuse, so have a look at the fuse box. There are only 2 fuses anyway so you have a 50/50 chance of success! I could mention the wiring colours but unless you've had a new wiring loom all the colours will have faded and look the same  but it's likely to be the fuse with the most wires going to it. Quite often it isn't actually the fuse that is blown but dirty connections in the fusebox, so a good clean-up (or, even better, a new fuse box) is a good idea.
If you get yourself a tester of some sort - just a bulb-holder with 2 wires on it will do - you can use it to check whether you have power.

Fuses are different on modern cars but a local garage might still have suitable ones. Otherwise the correct type 35amp fuses will still be available from specialists - try Google or similar?

How did the wiring 'come loose' ?? You must only ever join same colour wires to each other at any joint in the system.
