Dear all - today i have had passed to me a 1949 morris minor . This little car had been sitting in lock up garage for the last 21 years, in Chiswick London. We started it & i have now driven it to my home in Richmond Surrey - 5 miles.
The engine is different from normal & i am wondering if any one can identify it for me ?
Called Alta ? Surbution England engine number 46/253

Lucky you; Alta was a popular conversion for the sidevalve engine, to give extra performance, most likely by an alloy overhead valve cylinder head.
Such examples, in good condition, are highly sought-after, and worth a good few quid!
Any pics?

That's super cool.
Anybody know BHP or torque figures for that engine?

Ray Newell describes the Alta head conversion and says it improved overall performance with a max speed over 75mph. Doesn't give a bhp figure, though.
