I'm looking for advice on a way of protecting the car from the elements when not being driven. I've heard that close fitting covers are a bad idea and was taken by the drive in tent type efforts. They seem to lie flat or semi flat when no in use and kind of pop up and over when in place

I have very limited space available.

Does anyone have any experience of these?

I had a close fitting cheapish outdoor car cover on one of my cars a couple years back which left a horrible haze on the paint that was very difficult to get out. It was after heavy rain followed by sunshine which I'm assuming meant either condensation had collected under the cover from the rapid change in temperature or possibly the cover leaked and the hot direct sun on the trapped moisture was what screwed the paint up.

I've since always stored my cars in well ventilated garages, but possibly a higher quality car cover would not have the same problem.

Hi, A few years back I used a garden polytunnel for my traveller. I would highly recommend this approach. From memory it was 2mt x 3mt with an aluminium frame and a reinforced plastic cover. The main benefits were; I could drive in, it had ventilation, it had a domed roof(no build up of water or snow etc), no part of the cover touched the car and it was relatively cheap about 80/90 pounds , I think.
I used it over the winter and as long as it was tethered well, I had no problems.

I keep one of my cars under a Cover Systems folding garage. I modified it to fold completely flat and find it works well, plenty of fresh air gets underneath it, so much so that I keep a loose cover on the car to keep the dust off!
Wouldn't want to use the car on a daily basis as it's a bit of an effort but as the car only gets 'high days and holiday's usage it's fine.
