Steering wheel exchange

My 69 Traveller has the Standard two spoke steering wheel which is, despite polishing und cleaning getting a bit manky. I do not like the design of the two spoke anyway.

If I get hold of the three spoke with central horn push as for earlier models, will it fit on the column as a straight fit, does anyone know? The horn electrics I can sort out.

Yep, I fitted an earlier black three spoke to my '71 traveller and it, and the matching horn push, went straight on without modification :)

I also fitted one. Get yourself a Proxxon 34mm socket at the local DIY. It fits the steering wheel nut perfectly.

Ja, the 34 mm Proxxon i have already - The s/W has been off and on so many times now that it just slides off ! :D

The only thing to consider is that the more modern two spoke is allegedly designed as a "safety" wheel to collapse in the event of an accident, whereas the three spoke steel just pierce your chest. Of course, the column does not collapse, so it's probably immaterial anyway.

You would have thought the banjo wheel would bend away more easily.

The Minor steering column is design to fold forwards away from the driver in a bad frontal.
