Hi all, I know this is probably a long shot, but is there anybody with experience of taking a cherished classic car to New Zealand? What are the rules regarding road worthiness and vehicle road tax for a classic car? Any help much appreciated.

Hi Longdog
You could try sending a PM to Roni. He is a Kiwi (NZ dweller) and often posts on here. He will no doubt be able to tell you about the rules for registering classic cars.

I once read a magazine article by someone who took a Minor to New Zealand, I think it may have been in Minor Matters but I'm not sure. It didn't go well, there was much cost and bureaucratic hassle and they even had to replace their cunifer brake pipes with steel ones for the local mot. The final straw was that there are plenty of old cars there and they are much cheaper than in uk so it's probably better to sell your uk car here and buy another when you get there.

Thanks for the replies. The last thing I would want to do is export only to find plenty of hassle, hence why I raised the question. Careful research is required on this subject.
Cheers, LD.
