switch wiring help.

Trying without success to wire in a 2 position toggle switch (no 31850e 66357 sa ) so that 1st position powers the wiper motor and 2nd position powers the washer pump. It has 6 spade terminals similar to (but not exactly the same) as the standard light switch.
Despite trying every combination of options I remain stumped. I'm sure a better qualified sparky can answer this please?
I've tried copying the light switch wiring but they must be different internally, 'cos it should do exactly the same thing surely?
I have also searched Google for help but it does not recognise the switch.

Different internals for different uses. Best bet is a multimeter, a piece of paper, a pen and 10 minutes of seeing what is connected to what in each position. This switch usually has a resistor on it so if it is missing it is duff.

Resistor??? What for ???? Only the very special dim/bright switch as used on Jags and other up market cars for the instrument lighting have resistors attached.....

Thanks Rob. Which Manual and year--Morris or Lucas? Did spend 2 hours with Multimeter etc but more confused than ever Gave up temporarily and fitted another toggle switch for now.

BTW,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,there is no sign of a resister ever been fitted.

That part number is listed as being specifically used with a 47 ohm resistor, according to the Lucas parts manual. The Ebay advert also mentions it so perhaps the resistor has been removed as per the blurb in the ad.

Off the top of my head I think that terminal 4 was the power input and terminals 7 and 8 are the A and A&B terminals. Looking from the back, odd numbers on the left and largest number will be bottom right.

Put multimeter on 4 and 7...should buzz at switch position 2. meter on terminals 4 and 8, should buzz at switch positions 2 and 3. With the switch flicked to the upper position you should get nothing flowing through 7 or 8.

Can you give this a try and let me know? Maybe a picture of the rear of the switch could help.

Indeed not - the resistor is only for dim/bright use with low watts panel lights. Anything more and it would start a fire! There are many combos of what these switches can do - mine was wired to first bring on the headlights with side lights (so I could flash with it) , and then in second position the headlights extinguished just leaving the side lights on.

Mutimeter reading shows, as you say........4 and 7 = nothing in upper/connected in middle/ connected in lower

4 and 8= nothing in upper or middle but connected in lower.
Looks like that's cracked it. Will change switch later.
I was working on the assumption of 1 being "live"

Can I take this to a different level.............I am using a Lucas lightswitch (off-on-on) to power front fogs and rears on my pick-up. All the wiring is in and basically as follows a live feed from fuse to bottom terminal (7), them have wire from front fogs to 4 and a wire from the rears rears to 8 so basically fronts come on and then front and rears together.

This may not be correct but its how I want to wire them, these fused at the fuse box and the live feed comes from there live only when ignition on. Can someone advise should I add a few 4 pin relays (or one) if so how would I wire them to existing arangement?

I have a toggle light switch to operate the washers/wipers. The electric pump is mounted on the bulkhead with the washer bottle. The power supply is taken from the fuel pump terminal to the washer pump then to the switch as follows.
Term 1 existing wire to wipers
Term 8 washers
Term 4 earth existing wire to control box E
This should give 1st click wipers, 2nd click wipers/washers
Check washer pump connections are the correct way round.
NB the lights are live switched, the wipers are earth switched
