Folks,

quick question if I may; should a new bronze bush be a really tight fit in a clutch fork? The bush needs fitting to the fork with the help of a vice, then the bolt needs a lot of persuasion to go through the newly bushed fork. I can't see the fork moving freely about it's pivot and am inclinded to refit with the old bush.

The clutch fork should pivot easily around the bolt.
You may have slightly crushed the end of the bush when fitting.
Try a 5/16" drill through the hole.

Ream to fit after insertion, if solid metal. If oilite, one should not alter the bore by reaming. One can check the surface finish on the bolt and correct if needed. Hopefully it will only be the entry point which is deformed. I always check the bush with shaft (bolt in this instance) before fitting. This is an engineering approach, not necessarily a 'shade tree' alternative.

Oilite bushes may be reamed after installation without necessarily altering their lubricating quality. See page 10 'Reaming' in link.

The bush is and should be an iolite bush.
The bolt where not threaded has a ground surface and is not just any old 5/16" bolt but special to purpose.

Thanks a lot for the replies and advice. It obviously isn't right so I'll have another look, maybe get another bush for comparison purposes.

Just twiddle a drill bit through it - it's hardly a 'high wear' item.

I re-bushed a clutch lever last week, fitted a new bolt and used an 8mm reamer. It was a perfect fit.
