Can this be correct? short engine on Ebay...

Are the blocks af the marina and the ital the same? I thought the ital was an A+ engine, - what constitutes an A+? its not just the heads is it?

No, the Ital and Marina blocks are not the same........ well early Ital engines (A+) were fitted into very late Marinas so I suppose that's where confusion can arise.
Anyway that's an A+ block (Ital) so bite his hand off!!
You can tell easiest by the distributor arrangement. That is the fork type clamp (A+) and not the pinch-bolt (A series).
The heads are the same (more or less).
That one has the timing chain tensioner on too! (A+) (different front cover).

Well bite his hand off IF the bores/rings are not corroded etc...
His distinctly short description of 'unused since reconditioning' could mean 'fit for scrap due to storage in damp conditions'
Hopefully it is a good un tho.

Well I got it..... I just hope its as good as they said it is (dry stored after reconditioning and never used) as I paid a bit more than I intended.
Ahh well - hopefully this will form the basis of a replacement performace engine for the Mog.
Give me something to do over the summer anyhow

I'd have considered (and in fact did) a full Ital car, but I simply don't have the space - at least this way I can pick it up in the back of my Kangoo and get it off to MED-Engineering to get the work done to get if 1380'd (as this is the cunning plan). I spoke to the seller and its been dry stored since recon, so the crank, block etc will be useable for MED to do their stuff.
It is more than I really wanted to pay, but once I'd decided...... well, you know how it is.

Are you sure about MED ?? Perhaps consider Morspeed. Mini lads seem to think they give top value for money. 1380 is also leaving very thin walls - it could go porous on you and then it will be scrap! The extra few ccs make very little difference to performance - big difference to reliabilty/overheating/head gasket problems.

1380cc (73.5mm bore) seems to be the agreed limit for reliable running. It's pretty universally accepted now. Morspeed also do 1380cc kits / rebores.
MED know what they are doing as they have been in business for quite a while now.
Morspeed seem to be about £100 or so cheaper, but I personally would wonder why that is.......

I think Morspeed have much lower overheads - certainly get excellent write up on Minifinity board. Personally I have no experience of them. But for THAT price I would just be running the engine 'as is' - it's supposed to be new !! Stick a decent cam and head on the thing - it should go very well !

For that price you should build a glass case for it, make a shiny brass plaque, and have 24 hour security guards ;-)

Some people just like to do stuff on the cheap I guess....
Its not like £200 is a lot of money for crissakes. The last project engine I built (4.6 lt V8 rover) had around £4k in it.
But if you want to stick a £50 engine in your pride and joy........
