chassis numbers and the body number

Post by olderisbetter »

Just got a 1959 2 door minor, it has the stamped in number under the VIN plate and the numbers match and it has the small strip on the opposite side but also has another number joined onto it starting BME, does anyone know what this is about?

Thanks bmcecosse i'll pm him at some point with the full details of both this 1959 and my 58 traveller, i have found all the bumbers on both now, good news is everything seems where it should be and unmessed with.

Cowley builds

Z26076 is bodyshell code for a 2dr

2nd is sub total

BME is individual body number for a 2dr IF 6 digits - also used on Convertibles but with 5 digits W.S.E of BMT.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
