Convertible sill strengthener

Post by Chazbee »

Can someone tell me what the sill strengthener on a genuine convertible looks like and where it's located in the structure. I can't see it in the Moss exploded diagrams!

Here is the part for one side:

It fits inside, and is joined to, the inner sill step. It needs to be thoroughly treated with anti-rust protection to avoid severe structural rusting.

Is this spaced away from inner sill to form another box section behind the boxing plate?

Mine us a converted convertible . It has the extra inners ill welded on top of the original one . I have trimmed the bottom off the old boxing panel and welded a full length extra inner sill . You can get a good weld through the holes in the boxing panel . It seems very strong .

It is fixed directly to the inside of the inner sill, making a double wall. That is why rust can be a serious problem with water getting between the two abutted walls. On my 1970 Traveller, it was severely rusted.
