Are there any body shell changes for the 2 door saloon between a 1957 948cc and a 1968 1098cc apart from the trafficator mountings?

Were the doors made of thinner metal in 1968?

Thanks
Al

I'm not sure that the metal thickness changed to any significant degree but the bodyshell changes are very many indeed. Off the top of my head (so there are probably more) I can think of the rear quarter panels (due to the change from long to short roof moulding as well as the trafficator slots which you mention), The support for the later bootlid stay, seatbelt mountings built into the later body, the cant rail - the panel where the sunvisors fit changed design and the side rails too because of the swiveling sunvisors requiring a mounting clip, the dashboard panel (switch positions changed and the shape around the ignition switch), The engine bay bulkhead was changed due largely to the introduction of the later "fresh air" heater which required the large air intake hose as well as many different holes for the mounting positions of different components. The screwed on chassis plate differed in size for those years so would leave tell-tale signs and the position changed from bulkhead to front floor for the stamped in chassis number, wiper positions already mentioned, the rear bulkhead had holes added for the rear seat mounting and the front door pillars later received threaded mounting holes for the courtesy light switches....How many more differences do you want to know about?? If you're thinking about a shell change, apart from it being illegal strictly speaking, you'd have to do a HUGE amount of work to fool anyone with knowledge. These changes are just to the shell itself. Most of the bolt-on panels also changed to some degree over those years too.......

As above - unless you are building a strictly 'track/competition' car- it is illegal to change a bodyshell on a registered car -UNLESS you can find a brand new one that has never been registered. The bodyshell MUST retain it's original Reg Number - but perhaps that's your plan anyway - with many parts being transferred from a 'parts' car ?
