MM1949 South Australia

Post by Anz »

G'Day Blokes,

I need to replace the two front windscreen rubbers on a Morris Minor Low Light 1949 sedan and need some advice on the best way to go about it.

I have replaced a side window in a MM1000 panel van a long time ago and I think I used string and soap to do that job. Would the same procedure or principle apply with the windscreen?

Cheers,
Anz

ps: Great Forum

Hi from over the tazzy ditch.

I don't know too much about the splitty screens except that its a fiddle to do. Some one here is bound to have all the know how.

There's a bloke in Western Aus who has two splitty lowlites, one's a vert and the other's a tipper ute.

G'Day from the West Island Kiwi......lol

the Morrie in question is my fathers pride and joy which he purchased 56 years ago and both he, now 77 and Morrie have been around the clock twice, still original and still going strong :)

Wow! What a superb Minor. Do you realise that your father may have owned a Minor for longer than any other owner in history - what a distinction that would be! :D

You're on to it Cam, well done. Can have no more than 4 letters. Vert, Trav, van, ute, 4dr, 2dr.

Yes that Island causes us some stresses ;) . But nice to see such a tidy minor!

Hope fully someone can answer your question.

Hi Anz.
i have had great trouble fitting the split screen windscreen.
i have fitted many other single minor screens but the split screen was just impossible.
eventually i called the rac auto club, in uk, there windscreen fitting department.
they sent 2 skilled windscreen men to fit it. just this week. I took them about 2 hours, it was'nt easy.
they have all the tools and the feel for the job.
i was impressed, no tears in the rubber, i could not even get the screen near the lip.
i would get the specilists on this job.
save you a lot of worries and painfull fingers.
ps look after your chrome surround, it very difficult to find now.
