Looks like a vacuum port, for connecting the engine breather.

But I've connected the engine breather hose to the base of the air filter :-?

It goes on that port on the carb - much better than putting oil fumes all over the air filter....

Yep it will draw the fumes away much more efficiently and pull a slight vacuum on the engine reducing the chances of oil leaks. Win win :)

Is that true of all models?

Not sure if mine ( 68 traveller) has that - certainly do not remember one.

If there's a connection on the side of the carb then yes you should connect the breather to it. Earlier cars (not sure what date) didn't have the connection on the carb but one was fitted to the air filter. Pretty sure a '68 car would have the carb connection.

Thanks for that.

I do not have Access to the car at the Moment as I have the flu but as I remember it, there is only a hose connecting the rocker cover to the underside of the air filter.
When I get the Chance and strength to rise out of my death bed, I will check and Report

That's exactly the setup both of my 1968 cars had (i.e. Breather to filter housing). You wouldn't have both unless parts have been replaced with different ones.

I think it's a newer (Mini) carb that has been fitted.

Ahh, makes sense. Might as well use that port as it's there now!
