This is my sister’s car. She lives in Eire and has been driving around like this. The car has their equivalent of the MOT and is road legal. She sent it back over to me after the front suspension collapsed – and that wasn’t even the side with the really rusty chassis leg.
Ordinarily this would be straight off to the scrap yard but she loves it as it was her first car which I bought for her about 20 years ago – so I’ve got to weld what is left back together.
Let’s see who can ‘out rust’ me with their car :-)

I think there are a good many Minors around with that amount of rust in them - although it may be "hidden" a bit more.
At least you haven't got quite so much previously welded mess to cut out first and of course the Minor is very well served for part availability :)

On a more serious note, you do wonder what the point is of any sort of "MOT" if a car which has passed can suffer from suspension collapse.......

Think I'd go for the large size Kurust for that one.

Lovely and rusty on mine. Especially behind cover panels and welded on kick plates. We're very lucky we can buy all the repair panels and for a good price.

If it was this country I'd have reported the tester. I think the inspection for classic cars in Southern Ireland must consist of counting the wheels to make sure they are all there.

If memory serves it wasn't that long ago that the MOT simply didn't exist in Eire, a mate drove around in a bluebird with a crack right across the windscreen and no one batted the proverbial eyelid.

When I bought my van it had just passed a MOT the previous owner had just got it MOTed but I knew it had to have a few jobs done on it so it went into a garage to be repaired and mine had a hole in the floor which would have been clear to see the MOT tester would have seen it my dad fixed that. The brakes on one rear did not work as the shoes were not connected and leaking fluid all four tyres were cracked and two were below legal tread depth. :x

May have been a 'Postal' MOT where you just send the details and cash to the garage , and the MOT arrives by return.

The MOT garage was at the end of the road from the person I bought it from.
