determining distributor

I am in the throes of ordering a rotor arm points and condenser for my 1965 1098.
Can you chaps inform me which distributor the original standard engine is fitted with?
Is there a number stamped somewhere?

The car would have been fitted with a Lucas 25D4 as standard.
If you look down from the top, where the metal vacuum advance enters the distributor body , you will see the number cast
into the ledge of the body.
On the side of the main casting , you should see a " plaque type area " with the specific type of distributor , in the 25D range , numbered , hopefully 41124.
Immediately below this number will be a three / four figure manufacturing date , e.g 48 64 ( 48th week in 1964 i.e. ready to put on your 1965 car... I'm only guessing !!).
With the passage of time your distributor may have been changed during it's life time , so it's worth checking it out.

Ordered the parts up today from the Doc thanks, the markings I found on the flat underneath the vac unit are 25D, this was enough to sort a condenser and a spare rotor arm.

Well, I have 2 sets of spare points, as for low volts wires I need educating there BMC, Where do they go?
I set off on this tack because I fitted a low grade new condenser that let me down, fortunately I had the old/new spare in the boot.

It's the wee flexy wire that runs across the top of the dizzy baseplate.

Ah, thanks, do they have a tendency to fail?
What are the symptoms?

They tend to fray over the years, they also never get any attention when servicing the dizzy due to the location.

Yes - they fray and 'short' causing misfires or complete stoppage.
