I own a 1967 4 door minor, and have been given some stainless steel front windscreen rubber trim. There is plastic trim in it at the moment. Would anyone know
1. if the stainless trim will fit?
2. Which way round it fits, narrow edge facing the top or the bottom?
3. Is there a special tool needed to fit it?

The stainless trims are fitted into a different rubber, its a solid rubber that just uses the stainless as decoration and finished about 1965ish.

The one on you car with the plastic insert actually expands the rubber to help seal the screen. The plastic is fitted with a special tool but one can be made with an old file handle and some welding rod and a touch of patience! New plastic is probably under a fiver, dip it in some hot water before you start to fit it to help soften it up.

If I could fit the stainless trim in it's place?

I dont think it will work, if you compare the plastic profile with the stainless its quite different and its the profile shape that spreads the rubber to help seal it. It may work on a brand new rubber with extra sealant!

It won't fit. You will need the rubber specially designed for the metal insert rather than the later "chromed plastic one" Sadly they are not interchangeable. Keep the stainless steel for when you need to change the rubber. If the existing windscreen rubber doesn't leak leave well alone1
