Had a 180 mile drive in our 1960 original convertible today. The engine is now running very well but we experienced quite a bit of scuttle shake.
My question is are there any additions that can be added to the bodywork that could help reduce this scuttle shake.

Maybe the sills are past their best? When two of you get in the car - do the door gaps close up at the top of the door/side panel ? ?

I have both a Minor saloon and a convertible. The convertible is in very good structural condition having never required any underbody welding repairs but is not completely free from scuttle shake. It is noticeably different to my saloon. I have driven other convertibles and it is a characteristic of them although some are better than others - not surprising as they have all experienced 50-odd years of use and abuse.
Very little "extra strengthening" was done to create the convertible version so they are not the most robust car by modern standards. I'm assuming that your car is an original convertible? If it is a converted saloon has it had all the work done properly? And, as bmcecosse asks, is it in sound condition??

I've never heard of and additional strengthening available for the scuttle area other than the parts which the factory fitted to these cars but no doubt there is further work which could be done. I have always considered it a characteristic rather than a problem on my own car but it has never been as quiet or a tight as my saloon. It is worth making sure that all the door catches, rubbers etc are in good condition as these can add to the rattles when they become worn.
