lock tab washers

evening all!

after fixing an oil leak from the driver side rear wheel, the other side started leaking this week as well! Whilst replacing all the potential leak points I had a problem with getting either the new or old tab washer screwed back in. on the other wheel, the tab washer just went quite nicely back in, but this time the semi circular bit on the inside of the washer meant it seemed impossible to get it on without hammering the thing past the threads (which i didnt want to do!)

any general advice on how to get those bad boys on? the car is currently running without one, which i'm not too keen to do!

again, thanks for all the help and advice - this forum has helped me through ever problem i've had with Henry so far :)

Just straighten it and 'ease' it with a half-round file ? And you're right - no hammering...

i tried that but the b****r didn't want to go round at all - when you say ease, do you mean push it in side by side, or turn it with the file similar to how the nut is tightened (which i imagine would be hard considering how narrow it is)?

if there's no specific technique i might just try to ease it in a bit harder next weekend then :P

Wherever it's tight, file it until it slips on nicely.

thanks Les - not quite sure why i didn't think of that!! take it leaving the nut without the tab washer is a bad idea, or is it more a belt and braces approach?
