Hello,

I'm trying to find a 1098cc engine but a lot of engines aren't advertised with their engine size (or they're incorrectly listed). There's 2 engines listed under 'morris/turner engine' which may go for cheap and are local so think they're worth rebuilding. I asked for details but the only info the seller could give was the following...


This is what I've found engine 1 565394610114. A10. 60
Engine 2 8g 9. R H72912. AD

Does any of that mean anything? I thought the engine size was cast into the block?
Any way of identifying them from the photos.

If I the seller doesn't give clear answers to a potential buyers questions walk away. There are often engines advertised on this forum where all sizes and specs can be seen or at least asked for, why not buy this way, you no doubt will get clearer answers.

Because these engines currently sit at £10 for both and I'm driving past them on Friday.

Found the listing on Ebay. The smooth case gearbox would suggest a small bore engine (if it's original) and I think the engine back plates would suggest the same, the 1098 plate is a flat cast one but the ones in the listing seem to be pressed steel with a rolled edge. I'm sure someone will put me right if that's not the case.

Those are the ones! The smooth case box did make me think they must bè an older 948

The 8G number is the Gold Seal unit - and yes both look very 948 to me. Maybe worth the £10 for the starters, and 'lifting hooks!' and other 'bits' attached... But not any more.
