Getting original Reg no. back from DVLA

I was flicking through my travellers history folder a while ago and found a photocopy of the original log book which shows the original registration number to be VPO 879. (It currently has XWV 839A as its registration.) Has anyone managed to get their original reg back? The DVLA site says I need to fill out form V765 and send proof of orginal reg. I also need approval from the owners club.

Just wanted advice in case anyone has been through this and had any problems.

Thanks!

I'll do the dvla check to see if it's in use 1st!

Is it possible to check if a reg is in use without knowing the make of vehicle?

It won't show on DVLA unless you try every possible make of car against it..... Probably better to check the Insurance Register - or the London Congestion Charge list....

I need someone from the club to authenticate the claim and fill out a section on the V765. How do I go about this? Would I just contact my nearest branch?

Rob Thomasson, the technical tips guy, deals with these queries. His contact details are in minor matters (I'm not near a copy at the moment)
